Motorized Dinos plus Polymer Clay modeling

The current polymer playclay classes run by Garie Sim are very popular, with children in attendance, ranging from 4 years to 10 years old. These classes have produced a fruitful crop of creative young students, with creative abilities to develop their own idea, style and design.

Using polymer clay as the most versatile medium, Garie Sim has decided to conduct lessons on Motorized Educational Hobby Classes. This is also by popular request of the older students. The class is based on the original Tamiya Educational Construction Series. Children will be taught the proper way of building, modifying the walking dinosaurs such asTriceratops, Tyrannosaurus, Stegosaurus and Mammoth. The selected favorite hobby models are all motorized.

The aim of the course is to educate children in the creation of the motorized toys.

Appropriate for ages 9 years upwards, children will learn how to assemble the battery case to contact switch and motor connections. They will understand the working principle of the gears, link rods and the crank arms, that make the toy move.
Students will also be taught on how to use polymer clays to dress up the model, making the model look more realistic.
At the same time . they will learn about the various techniques of clay texturing, paint texturing on polymer clays, especially dinosaur skins and weathering of surfaces.

Modifying the existing model into other dinosaurs, such as changing a Triceratops into a Stegosaurus by creating polymer clay parts to enhance the model. Changing the motorized elephant into a mammoth. The completed model with exposed gears, linkages and motor gives an interesting insight into the working kinetic of the walking dinosaur toys. Putting the toy together, creating a diorama of the prehistoric environment, they will be able to challenge each other in a duel and in competition.

The process of playing will create fun in learning with the walking toys. It will also develop creativity in the child. For example, the Tyrannosaurus can also be transformed into a fearsome robotic beast with flashing eyes. One can also improve abilities by changing motors, improving stability by adding weight to the dino.

Acquiring some other electronic components (which can be light sensitive), you can also switch on the dinosaurs with a flash light or stop the dinosaurs from moving towards your direction, with a laser light which can be conveniently converted into a laser gun.
There are many imaginative ways of modifying these toys.
Ultimately, it is about creavity and fun.
Now how about this - converting an elephant toy into a Pterodactyls!!
